Week 48: Need Some Weight Loss Accountability

OK, so I haven't don't a very good job of keeping track of my eating or my weight over the last few weeks. Well, if I am being honest, I really haven't done a very good job of it for the last five MONTHS! If I look back over my history, my lowest weight so far was at the end of Week 28 (32.9 lbs lost). But I haven't made any further progress since then. In fact, I've lost ground.

Why?

I've posted the same answer in the past... because I stopped tracking and paying attention to my consumption. I know it works. I lost almost 33 lbs by tracking and paying attention to my consumption? So why did I stop? Why don't I continue? I don't really have an answer.

So I am going to try, one more time, to get refocused on this weight loss thing. I have about 24 lbs to go and I would like to lose that weight before I run my first "official" ultramarathon on November 12th, 2012. That gives me 21 weeks to lose 24 lbs. Is that possible? I think so but only if I focus and pay attention. Only if I make the tough decisions. Only if I decide to.

I need some help with accountability. Feel free to post comments or send me emails challenging me to stick with the plan and to stay focused. I read and appreciate every one of them. I know ultimately that I am responsible to hold myself accountable. But I also think it will help if I know I have a few people looking over my shoulder and cheering me on (and yelling at me when I start to slack off). Thanks in advance for your support.

  1. That's totally doable!

I've lost about 1,5 lbs per week for the past 20 or so weeks. I haven't used any magic diets or tricks. Just been eating less. I'm not even counting calories. Just eating normal sized meals and fruits for snacks. Less fast food and more vegetables.

Only external "help" that I have is my Withings scale: http://www.withings.com/ It posts my weight automatically online where it is visible in my blog - whether I want or not. So there is no way for me to start slacking without people noticing!

  2. Let the yelling begin!

I also want to lose: 13 lbs in the next 24 weeks and get down to my racing weight for the first time since I was a young'un.

    We need to:

Get on the scale EVERY DAY!
    Use Portion Control!
Beer/wine only twice a week MAX.

    Let's get it done!

  3. I'm with you - historically, the only thing that works for me to lose weight is to measure and count everything. It is tedious, but it works! And, once you stop one day, it's a slippery slope! You can get back on track, just do it one day at a time, and good luck!

  4. i use the "lose it" app to track, which makes it less tedious; or try "flash diet" method to change it up.

find an antagonist..someone that will bet you that you can't do it. naysayers can be inspiring.

good luck, er, i bet you can't do it
